![]() Buy America, Here I Come Isaac Nwokogba's new book, America, Here I Come,
contains unforgettable descriptions of being born into a village in West
Africa and growing up as a boy soldier in Nigeria's civil war. But his
purpose is different. Every stage of his life, including being nearly
driven to suicide by racism in America, is presented in terms of what it
reveals about the workings of karma, the spiritual law requiring us to
make amends for actions in past lives until we learn the necessary
lessons. Nwokogba's current life began as an eagerly awaited son in
a family with multiple mothers and a father who introduced him to African
mystical ceremonies as well as Christianity. He explains the spiritual
significance of the circumstances of his birth, his training with a
brigade of boy soldiers and narrow brushes with death. A dream shortly
after his father's death led to his discovery of the money needed for him
to attend secondary school. In the United States to attend college on scholarship, he
fell into a persistent depression when he took encounters with racism
deeply to heart. Through involvement with mystical organizations that
continued the tutelage of his youth, he realized that in a past life he'd
been a slave owner and now had to make up for the evils he'd committed.
Working hard on his spiritual development, he desperately
wanted a sign that he was changing, which came in an incident where he was
held at gunpoint and threatened with death. Asking leave to pray for a
moment, he sent a telepathic message to a nearby friend, who came over a
few minutes later, rescuing him and proving beyond a shadow of a doubt
that his studies had borne fruit. At each twist in his dramatic life story, Nwokogba pauses
to explain briefly and clearly the larger meaning of the events he
experienced. The combination of narrative and lecture gives "America, Here
I Come" a power many times greater than either element would have alone.
"Knowledge and experience give one an unshakable confidence in the
infinite power of a higher force that faith alone cannot match," writes
Nwokogba, which also applies to the impact on the reader of this unusual
spiritual memoir. ![]() Buy America, Here I Come |
